Reliance Jio Rs 500 VoLTE feature phone may launch on Aug 15 to disrupt the market again along with the new tariff plans

Jio is going to once again disrupt the market with the much anticipated 4G VoLTE phone within a month, with brokerage HSBC pricing at a very low cost of Rs.500, which could get another rush of interruption in the telecom market.

The launch - which some believe that could be happen at Reliance Industries' in the Annual broad meeting on July 21. In the next few days, Jio is likely to announce a new tariff plan with an aggressive offer.

Reliance Jio is probably going to value its 4G VoLTE phone "at Rs.500 to lure 2G subscribers to switch 4G”, which means "Jio sponsoring every handset by as much as Rs 650-975", Rajiv Sharma, HSBC director and telecoms investigator, said in a note seen by ET.

"This launch will make a disturbance in the telecom market," said by a top analyst of one of the main leading telcos. Not simply us, but the current players could firmly lose a lump of their low-end voice consumers.

Jio is the one and only one operator that runs a 4G VoLTE network, while its competitors, for example, Airtel, Idea and Vodafone are still running trials on VoLTE but still they haven't launched economically.

The 4G VoLTE feature phone comes with some main Chinese manufacturers including Shenzhen CHINO-E Communication Co, Zhejiang Techain Electronics Technology Co., Crave and Megaphone. Flagship makers roughly sell overall five million phones and 15 million smartphones a month on an average basis. People who are aware of the details say that the shipments of the device would start from July end or will be launched by August 15.

A telecoms executive of another brokerage, who did not want to be named, said that Jio will attempt to touch lower price points.

"Other than the Jio Dhan Dhana Dhan offer, it has different plans that begin at around Rs 150 a month, and they may present one at as low as Rs 80-90 for a similar period with an intend to disrupt the market" he said.
